Taking responsibility for the shit that happens in our life is one of the hardest things to do. Our egos never let us do that. After all, why take responsibility when we can blame someone or something, right? We are always looking for different external factors to shift the blame to. Blame everyone and everything all you want but, if you really want to grow in life, stop. Stop and start taking responsibility for everything that happens in your life.

People think taking responsibility means accepting they’re at fault and that’s not true. You can take responsibility for something and still not be at fault. In life, almost always, you’ll come up against shit you didn’t ask for. But how you react to it shapes your future and that’s why it is important to take responsibility. Let’s say you fall sick and miss out on going out with your friends for a night out. While falling sick is definitely not your fault, you can choose how to react to the situation. You can either decide to sit and sulk about it for the whole week or spend the time doing something productive while sitting in your bed. Your choices make your life, you can pick either of the choices mentioned above but ultimately, it is you who must live with it.

Life can never be planned out. It is uncertain. It was uncertain, is uncertain and will always be uncertain. Blaming external factors every time you are met with a certain degree of inconvenience will never let you grow. Taking responsibility is not easy but is worth it. Blaming others may help you feel a bit better on the short term, but in the long run, it will be the cause for your downfall.

This is your one shot at life and how you live it is in your hands. Sure, you might not end up being the supermodel you hoped you’d become when you were 5, but there is still a great life waiting for you out there. You just have to take responsibility and make the right choices. As long as you take responsibility for everything that happens in life, things will eventually work out; maybe not the way you imagined, but certainly in a better way.
